8e6 Technologies

8e6 Technologies is the authority and leading provider of appliance-based Internet filtering, Internet monitoring and reporting solutions for business, education, government and ISPs worldwide. Recognizing internet security threats and distractions such as inappropriate Internet content, instant messaging (IM), peer-to-peer (P2P), spyware, adware and spam, 8e6 empowers organizations with turn-key solutions that enforce their Acceptable Use Policies (AUP) — improving productivity, reducing liability and preserving network resources.

8e6 Professional Edition

The 8e6 Professional Edition delivers high-performance, enterprise-quality filtering via a suite of optimized, task-specific appliances. It sits outside the flow of network traffic, executing passive observation and approval/denial of outbound Web requests. This "pass-by" methodology results in unmatched network compatibility, performance and fail-safe confidence. Anchored by a broad and deep URL database organized into 100+ categories identifying millions of Web sites, the 8e6 Professional Edition has been ranked among the most accurate Web gateway security solutions for the last 10 years.

Reporting with the 8e6 Professional Edition is a completely different experience than reporting with other Web filtering products. Designed and dedicated to meet "real time" expectations, the suite's reporting appliance processes granular data queries—down to the user and specific Web page—at speeds that deliver fast results and retrieve archive data in a fraction of the time than other products require. Additionally, the 8e6 Professional Edition is designed with today's business, education and government archival requirements in mind. Should additional data retention be required, Marshal8e6 provides clients with custom NAS configurations.

Finally, the 8e6 Professional Edition monitoring solution fills the gap between detection and action. By setting customized thresholds, administrators can "watch" outbound Web traffic 24/7; automatically receiving alerts to AUP violations, bandwidth threats and other suspect Web activity. It can even shut down user access if needed—in real time.

WebMarshal

It's standard operating procedure to block users from Web sites that pose obvious legal risk. But what about news sites? Education sites? Medical sites? The Web's increased complexity, browser vulnerabilities and hacker sophistication—among other factors—have combined to make legitimate sites a risk, as well, requiring more than outbound traffic management.

WebMarshal is a software solution that can control user access to particular types of Web sites, what users can view, what they can download or upload, and how much time or bandwidth they can spend at a site. WebMarshal also goes beyond standard HTTP Web traffic to scan secured HTTPS and control Web applications such as instant messaging and streaming media.

3 in 1

WebMarshal combines three key functionalities into a single secure Web gateway:

  • Web Access Control - management of employee Internet use
  • Web Threat Security - protection against Web-based security threats
  • Data Leakage Prevention - security of confidential or sensitive information

Organizations spend a lot of time gaining control of outbound Web traffic. Ignoring what comes into the network from the Web is a dangerous risk.

8e6 ProxyBlocker Appliance

The 8e6 ProxyBlocker appliance is specifically designed for organizations not using Marshal8e6 filtering solutions. The 8e6 ProxyBlocker utilizes proxy pattern detection, a unique signature-based technology, to identify and block Web-based proxies/anonymizers. These avoid detection by most URL (list-based) Internet filters because database updates can't keep up with the speed at which they are created, effectively establishing several "rabbit holes" that users escape through to reach unauthorized Web content.

The 8e6 ProxyBlocker intercepts requests for anonymous proxies on-the-fly, resulting in real-time protection. Additionally, the 8e6 ProxyBlocker identifies attempts to set up proxy tunnels, preventing these connections, and then records the number of times a user/student tries to access them. If enabled, the 8e6 ProxyBlocker denies Internet access to users who violate an organization's Acceptable Use Policy. 8e6 ProxyBlocker also blocks peer-to-peer and instant messaging applications.
