Purchasing
How can I purchase NOD32?
You can purchase NOD32 Home Edition, Business Edition (formerly known as "Enterprise Edition"), or NOD32 for Microsoft Exchange through the Total Tech online store.
If you need to place an order for more than 100 users, if you or your client qualify as an educational or government institution, or need to purchase a product that is not listed, please contact Total Tech directly at (800) 509-5952.
What happens after I place an order online through your e-store?
You will receive an order confirmation immediately after you order. Your order will be processed the next business day after your order has been placed. Once processed, you will receive your username, password and download instructions from eset@suitesoftware.com.
What do I receive with a NOD32 license?
Licenses for NOD32 provide signature updates to detect new computer viruses, worms and other threats, software updates to add features and fix problems and technical support. Licenses can be purchased for most products for one or two years.
When a license expires, you may continue to use the software, however, you will not be able download signature or program updates, nor will you be able to request technical support.
The trial version of NOD32 operates for thirty (30) days, during which time it downloads signature updates just like the licensed version. Trial versions of NOD32 do not download program updates. At the end of the trial period, the program will stop downloading updates. It is important for anti-virus programs to receive updates in order to maintain detection capabilities. If you purchase a license for NOD32, you can enter the Username and Password received in the order conformation email to upgrade it to the registered version of the software available to licensed users.
Can I upgrade from the trial to the licensed version of NOD32?
In June, 2006, ESET changed the way trial versions of NOD32 for Microsoft Windows function so they can be directly updated to the registered versions available to licensed users by entering the Username and Password sent with each order confirmation email. Licensed users may also download registered versions of NOD32 from the Registered Users' Download Page.
If you installed a trial version of NOD32 downloaded before June, 2006 then it cannot be updated to the registered version and you must uninstall it before upgrading to the registered version of NOD32.
What information does ESET need if I change my email address?
The primary method used by ESET to identify customers is the username and password issued when your order was placed. In the event the username and password were lost we would attempt to identify the order by looking up the email address from which it was placed.
While it is not required to keep a current email address on record with ESET, it is a good idea to do so in case the username and password are lost. You can contact Total Tech or ESET directly to report a new email address. If possible, forward a copy or the original order confirmation message you received from ESET with your request, which should contain the sales order number, username, password and your old email address.
We will not send you any additional messages to your email account nor will ESET provide your email address to a third-party.
A Trial Expired message appears after upgrading to the licensed version of NOD32.
In June, 2006, ESET changed the way trial versions of NOD32 for Microsoft Windows work so they can now be directly updated to the registered versions for licensed users by entering the Username and Password received with each order confirmation email. Licensed users may also download registered versions of NOD32 from the Registered Users' Download Page.
If you installed a trial version downloaded before June, 2006 then it must be uninstalled and the computer must be rebooted before installing the licensed version of NOD32. Here are the steps to take to resolve this:
- Download the licensed version of NOD32 from our web site here using the username and password from your order confirmation email and save it to a location you will remember, such as the My Documents folder or the Windows Desktop.
- Uninstall the trial version of NOD32 from your computer by selecting Start → Programs → Eset from the Taskbar and selecting the Uninstall program.
- Reboot the computer when the uninstall is finished.
- Run the installer for the licensed version of NOD32 you saved.
If you require further assistance, please contact the ESET Technical Support department.

How do I enter my username and password to download NOD32?
In order to download licensed versions of NOD32 from the Registered Software Download Page on ESET's web site, you must enter the Username and Password which sent to you through email by ESET when you placed your order.
The Username and Password used by ESET are Case-Sensitive. This means that "abc" is different than "ABC" and if you type them in the wrong case they will not work.
The best way to enter the Username and Password you received from email into the Registered Software Download Page is to copy and paste them from the message you received from ESET. Here is how to do this, step-by-step:
- Start your email client as you normally do and open the message you received from ESET containing your Username and Password.
- Scroll down until you see the the Username: line, which begins with "AV-" followed seven (7) numbers. For example, AV-1234567.
- Place your mouse's cursor in front of the Username: beginning with "AV-," click and hold down the left mouse button and drag until the last number at the end of the line is highlighted. Let go of the left mouse button.
- On your computer's keyboard, press the Ctrl and C keys together at the same time. This copies the highlighted Username: text into the system's clipboard.
- Start your web browser as your normally do and go to the Registered Software Download Page on ESET's web site. Click on the Download link to begin transferring the NOD32 file to your computer. A dialog window will appear asking you to enter your Username and Password.
- When prompted to enter the Username:, click inside the field and press the Ctrl and V keys together at the same time. This pastes the text from the system's clipboard into the empty Username: field.
- Go back to your email client with the message you received from ESET containing your Username and Password.
- Scroll down until you see the the Password: line, which is a series of lower-case letters and numbers which is ten (10) characters long. For example, a1b2c3d4e5.
- Place your mouse's cursor in front of the Password: and hold down the left mouse button and drag until the last character at the end of the line is highlighted. Let go of the left mouse button.
- On your computer's keyboard, press the Ctrl and C keys together at the same time. This copies the highlighted Password: text into the system's clipboard.
- Go back to your web browser. When prompted to enter the Password:, click inside the field and press the Ctrl and V keys together at the same time. This pastes the text from the system's clipboard into the empty Password: field.
- Click on the OK button to send the username and password and the download will begin.
If you require further assistance, please contact the ESET Technical Support department.
What will I actually download from ESET's web site?
You will download an executable file from our web site to your computer. Executable files have extensions such as .COM and .EXE, although these may not be visible on your computer depending upon how it has been set up. Even if the file extension is not visible, you should still be able to run the file on your computer.
When saving the file to your computer, choose a location you will remember such as the Desktop or to a folder named C:\TEMP\ and so forth. The location is not important, as long as you remember where the file was saved to and can run it after it has been downloaded to your computer.
After the file has finished downloading to your computer, you can begin installation of NOD32 by double-clicking on the program's icon. The program will automatically extract and then you can follow the instructions it provides to complete the installation of NOD32 on your computer.
For further assistance, please contact ESET Technical Support department.

Installation
How do I install the NOD32 antivirus system?
The NOD32 installers available on the Registered Users' Download Page are self-extracting archives. After you download the particular installer and save it to the disk, run it from that location. The files will be extracted (by default, to C:\Program Files\Eset\Install directory) and the setup program will be launched automatically.
What needs to be configured during the installation and how?
NOD32 offers three different modes for installation, Typical, Medium and Expert, each of which allows for a different amount of customization during the installation process.
For most users, selecting the Typical installation is best. In this mode, NOD32 is configured to provide your computer with a high degree of protection against malicious software. When performing a Typical installation, the setup program will only prompt you to enter the username and password used for downloading updates (you can also enter them later, if you like). The other option which can be set during a Typical installation is whether or not to run the on-access scanning module, Access Monitor (AMON), when the computer starts. Normally, this option should always be enabled. The only situation in which it should not be enabled is if your computer has another anti-malware program on it which stays resident in the computer's memory and continuously runs in the background (such as a driver, TSR or service).
The Medium and Expert modes provide more control over how NOD32 is configured. For more information, you can download NOD32's manuals from NOD32 Documentation page.
What needs to be done after installation?
After NOD32 has been installed, it is highly recommended that you immediately update the virus signature database to the most current version in order to get maximum protection capabilities.
How do I configure the system after the installation?
If you need to adjust any of the NOD32 settings after installation, select the appropriate module in Control Center and click the Setup button in the right pane. For more information on the particular settings, you can invoke help by pressing the F1 key or clicking the Help button.
How can I tell if NOD32 is working properly?
The most important component of NOD32 is the on-access scanner, which checks files and the system areas of disks as they are accessed for computer viruses and other threats. NOD32's on-access scanner is called the Access Monitor, or AMON for short. AMON should be run at all times. If AMON is active on your system, the NOD32 Control Center icon in the System Tray in the lower-right corner of the Desktop will be green and white.
The other parts of NOD32's layered defense strategy ares the Internet Monitor (IMON) and Email Monitor (EMON). IMON checks your computer's network connection(s) for for computer viruses and other threats and EMON specifically checks Microsoft Outlook.
Testing AMON
Here is how to verify AMON is working on your computer, step-by-step:
- First, temporarily disable the Internet Monitor (IMON) module by opening the NOD32 Control Center, selecting IMON from the list of Threat Protection Modules and de-selecting (un-checking) the Internet Monitor (IMON) enabled option.
- Download the European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research (EICAR) test file (filename: EICAR.COM) from this page on EICAR's web site and save it to your computer.
If AMON is enabled and working properly, it will detect the EICAR test file.
- Remember to re-enable the Internet Monitor (IMON) module by opening the NOD32 Control Center, selecting IMON from the list of Threat Protection Modules and selecting (checking) the Internet Monitor (IMON) enabled option.
Testing IMON (POP3 email)
Here is how to verify IMON is checking POP3 email, step-by-step:
- First, temporarily disable the Access Monitor (AMON) module by opening the NOD32 Control Center, selecting AMON from the list of Threat Protection Modules and de-selecting (un-checking) the File System Monitor (AMON) enabled option. If you are using Microsoft Outlook for your mail client, disable the Email Monitor (EMON) module by de-selecting (un-checking) the Microsoft Outlook Email Monitor (EMON) enabled option.
- Download the European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research (EICAR) test file (filename: EICAR.COM) from this page on EICAR's web site and save it to your computer.
- Open your email client and compose a new message to your own email address. Attach the EICAR Text File to the message and send it to yourself.
If IMON's POP3 scanner is working properly, it will detect the EICAR Test File when your mail client retrieves messages.
- Be sure to re-enable the Access Monitor (AMON) module by opening the NOD32 Control Center, selecting AMON from the list of Threat Protection Modules and selecting (checking) the Access Monitor (AMON) enabled option.
NOTE: If your mail client uses another protocol such as IMAP or uses SSL encryption to connect to mail servers then IMON will not check the mail. Alternatively, you can switch to Microsoft Outlook (not Outlook Express), in which case your mail will be checked for viruses and other threats by EMON when it is downloaded.
It may be possible to check SSL-encrypted mail by installing third-party proxy software and using it to manage the SSL connection between the mail client and mail servers, however, ESET cannot assist you in setting this up nor is it a supported configuration.
Testing IMON (HTTP web browser)
Here is how to verify IMON is checking your web browser, step-by-step:
- Download the European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research (EICAR) test file (filename: EICAR.COM) from this page on EICAR's web site in order to save it to your computer. If IMON's HTTP scanner is working properly, it will detect the EICAR Test File when your web browser attempts to download it.
NOTE:. Depending on which web browser is used, it may be necessary to adjust IMON's Compatibility Mode settings for the web browser from Higher Compatibility to Higher Efficiency. This can be done by viewing the settings for the IMON Threat Protection Module, clicking on the Setup button, going to the HTTP tab and clicking on the Client Compatibility button towards the bottom of the window. Using the Higher Compatibility mode may prevent IMON's HTTP scanner from detecting all threats as it receives and passes files being downloaded in blocks instead of allowing the whole file first to download first.
Testing EMON (Microsoft Outlook email montior)
Here is how to verify EMON is checking email in Microsoft Outlook, step-by-step:
- First, temporarily disable the Access Monitor (AMON) module by opening the NOD32 Control Center, selecting AMON from the list of Threat Protection Modules and de-selecting (un-checking) the File System Monitor (AMON) enabled option and disabling the Internet Monitor (IMON) module by opening NOD32 Control Center, selecting IMON from the list of Threat Protection Modules and de-selecting (un-checking) the Internet Monitor (IMON) enabled option.
- Download the European Institute for Computer Anti-Virus Research (EICAR) test file (filename: EICAR.COM) from this page on EICAR's web site and save it to your computer.
- To test whether EMON is scanning outgoing messages, open Microsoft Outlook and compose a new message to your own email address. Attach the EICAR Text File to the message and attempt to send it to yourself. If outgoing message scanning is enabled in EMON, which is the default setting, NOD32 will warn you when Microsoft Outlook attempts to send the EICAR Test File.
- To test wether EMON is scanning incoming messages, disable outgoing email scanning in the Microsoft Outlook Email Monitor (EMON) by opening the NOD32 Control Center, selecting EMON from the list of Threat Protection Modules, clicking on the Setup button to open the EMON Setup window and de-selecting (un-checking) the Scan Outgoing Mail option. Now, attempt to mail yourself a copy of the EICAR test file again using Microsoft Outlook. NOD32 should detect the EICAR test file the next time you retrieve your email and attempt to download the EICAR test file.
NOTE: Be sure to re-enable scanning of both incoming and outgoing email in EMON after you have finished testing.
Remember, EMON only checks email transferred through Microsoft Outlook and not other email clients such as Microsoft Outlook Express, Pegasus Mail, Qualcomm Eudora and so forth. If you are using another email client you will be protected by IMON and AMON.
How does the NOD32 antivirus system work?
Basically the system functions in two ways:
1. First, the conventional "identification by signature or file name" which is common to all current antivirus programs.
2. Second, by using heuristics (standard or advanced) to check other file characteristics which may be indicative of malware.
How can I find out whether my NOD32 is up to date?
The version number of the currently installed virus signature database appears in the status window of all NOD32 modules as well as among NOD32 System information. If your NOD32 is out-dated, a pop-up notification window will appear at NOD32's startup. To make sure you have the most current version installed, visit our website www.nod32.com (or any our local website) and compare the version number provided by your NOD32 with that listed on the website.
Alternatively, you can connect to the Internet and press the Update now button manually. NOD32 will subsequently be updated to the most current version, or you will get a message that your NOD32 is up to date.
How do I determine which version of NOD32 I have?
To determine which version of NOD32 is installed on your computer, open the NOD32 Control Center icon by clicking on the green-and-white icon in the System Notification Area by the clock in the lower right-hand corner of your screen and select NOD32 System Tools → Information from within the Control Center window. Version information will be displayed in the pane to the right of the Control Center.
How do I uninstall the NOD32 antivirus system?
NOD32 can be uninstalled directly from the Start menu - Programs (All programs) - Eset - Uninstall, or trough Start - Settings - Control panel - Add / Remove programs
